Our Story

Between exile and rebuilding: Hamid's journey

Hamid grew up in Afghanistan, where his father owned a small grocery store. From a very young age, he learned to work alongside him, amidst the spices, tea, and everyday products. This place was much more than a shop: it was a place of sharing, encounters, and life.

Then war and the Taliban turned his life upside down. After losing his father in a war-torn context and leaving his country, Hamid spent a year on the road, crossing ten countries before reaching France and trying to rebuild his life.

Upon arriving in Dordogne, he learned French, worked for several years in a Michelin-starred restaurant, "Le Petit Léon," and learned the demands, attention to detail, and respect for products. But deep down, a desire never left him: to rediscover that spirit of transmission and share his culture.

Showcasing a different image of Afghanistan

Today, with Méva, we want to showcase a different image of Afghanistan: a warm, human, artisanal, and profoundly rich culture.

Through this grocery store, Hamid also wants to pay tribute to his father and rediscover a part of what he knew as a child: a lively, welcoming place full of sharing, inspired by oriental flavors. Méva is not just a business; it is a heartfelt project, conceived as a true place of encounter, curiosity, and cultural journey.

Highlighting Afghan women

Through Méva, we also want to highlight Afghan women and their cultural, artistic, and human richness. Photographers, singers, artisans, poets, or creators: despite an often difficult reality, many Afghan women continue to keep their culture, art, and voice alive.

On our scale, we love to showcase this facet through visual, musical, and cultural inspirations present in our approach. Méva is a space for discovery, sharing, and highlighting a profoundly vibrant culture.
